扎克伯格一边经营公司一边学中文


清华大学校长陈吉宁与马克﹒扎克伯格交谈


       Facebook的首席执行官扎克伯格(Mark Zuckerberg)于
10月22日到清华经济管理学院访问,与主持人进行了半小时的全中文对话,令在场观众颇为惊喜,全过程不断因扎克伯格的中文甚至是轻松的玩笑爆发出掌声和欢呼。

       扎克伯格曾表示自己于2010年开始学习中文,最初的目的是为了和自己中国裔的妻子以及她的家人交流,后来逐渐对中国文化充满越来越大的兴趣。

       还有个原因是“我喜欢挑战”,扎克伯格在访谈中用不算太流利的中文解释道。此外,他还称赞中国有很多很棒的创新公司,Facebook也将在明年招聘更多的优秀中国学生。

       Twitter网友fmanjoo说:“扎克伯格整整说了30分钟的中文。他一边经营着一家公司一边还学中文,而你们整天都把时间花在Facebook上。”


Why Should We Learn Chinese  
      

First of all, 1/4 of the world's population speaks Chinese. Chinese speakers not only live in China, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia, but also spread throughout Southeast Asia, North America, and Europe. You can find China town in many cities. Chinese people today have been playing increasingly important roles worldwide, and 4 out of 10 top corporates in the world are owned by Chinese. In the Chinese market, your knowledge on how to speak Chinese is of outmost importance since most Chinese individuals use their native language.


Second, Chinese culture has greatly inspired the western world through Marco Polo, G. W. Leibniz, Max Weber, Franz Kafka, Andre Malraux, Bertolt Brecht, Ezra Pound, and Luis Borges, among others. From Confucianism and Chan Buddhism to martial arts and Chinese cuisine, all these have an enormous influence on East and Southeast Asian nations.


Third, learning Chinese can open for new career chances. There are available employment in the field of manufacturing as well as teaching Chinese, translation, travel industry and interpreting. For instance, in western countries knowing how to speak this language can establish good working relationship with Chinese employees. Also, this can build rapport with other companies abroad. Proficient speakers of Mandarin Chinese will find jobs more easily. Of all foreign languages at American universities and colleges, Chinese shows the highest proportional increase in enrollment.


Also, most countries apart from China speak the Chinese language such as Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore and Taiwan. So, if you travel to these countries you will not have a hard time communicating with the local people as well as read signs and directions.


Leaning Chinese is becoming a demand for teachers, translators, government officials, import/export specialists, tour guides, etc. The benefits of acquiring Chinese language are numerous and far-reaching. So it's really important to learn Chinese.
